Fire Academy FAQ

 

What are the hours of the academy?

The academy is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6pm-10pm and every other Saturday 8am-5pm.

Do I have to have any kind of EMS certification to attend the

academy?

No, you do not, but before you may become certified through the TCFP you must have an EMT-B or higher.

Do I have to pass a physical agility test prior to admission into

the academy?

No, you do not.

How long does the academy last?

The academy starts the first Tuesday in August and goes until approximately the middle of April. Holidays and breaks for the academy will be discussed during the orientation night.

Can I rent PPE from the academy?

Due to NFPA requirements we are no longer able to rent PPE to students. You may call Lance Barrett with Daco Fire Equipment at 806-548-1014 to purchase PPE that is in compliance.

If I have hours through SFFMA, do they carry over towards

my TCFP certification?

No, they do not. TCFP has a course outline set and you have to sit through the entire class to be able to get your course completion and take the state test.

If I withdraw from the academy after the orientation night or

after I pay any of the installment payments will I get my

deposit/tuition back?

No, it’s not refundable.
